Dawn Bloomfield (in memorium)
Dawn and her husband Craig moved from Gross Pointe, MI to the Third Ward and opened Club Charlies in 2009. They wanted to create a bar where you walk in and the bartender has your drink waiting for you. It was something they’d experienced in their Michigan hometown and they wanted to bring to Milwaukee.
I am a true testament to this experience. I moved to the Third Ward five years ago and was quickly drawn to Club Charlies atmosphere. It simply became a place for me to “be” as a newcomer without knowing a soul in town. Today I can tell you that many friendships have been forged through my relationships with the staff and Dawn’s husband Craig. They have become part of my Milwaukee family.
My favorite memory of Dawn is during Downtown Dining in 2013: she was donned in a floral printed skirt, a sassy apron, and her bicycle (with a basket of course) was parked out front. She truly had an aura about her and always had a welcoming smile.
Dawn created Friends of Catalano Square in 2012 with a vision of making the park an intimate social gathering space and enhancing the beauty of the park. She pioneered Ayre in the Square, a free concert series that is in place today through numerous volunteers with a passion to carry on her vision.
Dawn is cherished today and greatly missed. Friends of Catalano Square is dedicated to making her vision become a reality. We look forward to unveiling the numerous enhancements we are working towards for the future of Catalano Square.
